The global leader in the auto rental market is still trying to emerge from the broken-up Cendant conglomerate in one piece. Rental revenues were up last year, despite a tough leisure travel environment. But costs rose thanks to a $1.2 billion loss in the value of its brands and higher prices for cars charged by Detroit's Big Three.
The company aims to grow its off-airport rentals to better compete with Enterprise, its biggest competitor.
